10 hurt in clash at Kawrakandi,Mawa terminals

At least 10 people were injured in series of clashes between speedboat drivers and workers at Mawa and Kawrakandi terminals over serial of speedboats yesterday morning. Workers also stopped plying of speedboats on Mawa-Kawrakandi route creating immense sufferings to the passengers. Additional police forces have been deployed at both the terminals to keep the situation under control. Police, speedboat owners and workers said, speedboat drivers and workers of Mawa attacked and injured Kawrakandi terminal speedboat driver Ershad and Tota Miah at Mawa terminal over serial of boats in last two days. As a sequel to the incident, workers of Kawrakandi yesterday morning attacked the speedboat drivers coming from Mawa. Workers of Mawa also attacked the speedboat drivers of Kawrakandi. On information, local police and highway police came to the spot and brought the situation under control. Speedboat owners and workers at both the terminals claimed that six workers remained missing till filing of the report yesterday afternoon. Of the injured, Zainal Abedin, 30, Delwar Hossain, 25, Khidir Miah, 27 have been admitted to Shibchar hospital for treatment. Contacted, Kawrakandi speedboat ghat lessee Atahar Bepari said, workers of Mawa were beating workers of Kawrakandi for last several days over serial of speedboats.
