10 injured as Jubo Dal groups clash in Munshiganj
At least 10 people were injured as two groups of Jubo Dal men clashed on the BNP office premises in the town yesterday.
The injured include district Jubo Dal organising secretary Sultan. Police arrested Farhad Bepari, 22, and Mamun, 35, from the spot.
Sadar police station OC Monir Hossain said, one Babul claiming himself as convenor of Jubo Dal clashed with organising secretary Sultan during a street corner meeting of the organisation.
Police resorted to baton charge to disperse the clashing groups.
Away in Moulvibazar, five BNP men of Kamalganj upazila including district BNP joint convener Haji Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury and his brother Kamalganj upazila chairman Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury were arrested on Friday evening on charge of attack on police. Sources said when BNP leader Haji Mujibur and his brother Shamim were trying to enter the BNP office at Bhanugachh bazaar police obstructed them. At this, the agitated BNP activists threw brick bats on police. In reply, police exploded five tear gas shells, reports our correspondent. Eleven policemen including Kamalganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) Nazim Uddin were injured during the incident. Kamalganj OC said, BNP activists were trying to accord a reception to Haji Mujibur and his brother at Bhanugachh bazaar illegally on Friday evening. Of the injured SI Mahbub, SI Badrul and DSB Azad were admitted to Kamalganj upazila health complex.
