50 injured as rival groups clash in B'baria
Over 50 people, including policemen, were injured in a violent clash between two groups of people at Natai village in Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
Locals said the clash broke out at noon between Chandi group and Nasir group over establishing supremacy in the area. Nasir group first attacked UP member Takdir Hossain at local Chand market.
Later, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons and sticks attacked each other, leaving 50 people from both sides injured. During the two-hour long fighting, the clashing groups damaged some houses and shops and exploded bombs, creating panic among the local people.
Police lobbed six teargas shells to bring the situation under control. Four of the injured--Takdir Member, Faruk Mia, Ershad Mia and Javed Mia--were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital and local clinics while Manik Mia was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to fend off further trouble.
