Arrested Shibir man brought to Rajshahi, interrogated
Rajshahi University (RU) Shibir leader Ekram Hossain arrested in connection with Chhatra League worker Faruk murder case from Dhamrai was brought to Rajshahi and handed over to Motihar police yesterday.
Ekram, president of Amir Ali hall unit of Shibir and a masters student of Islamic Studies department at RU was quizzed by local police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members yesterday.
He will be placed before the court today with a remand prayer for 10 days, said Mrinal Bhattachariya, Motihar zonal assistant commissioner of RMP.
He said Ekram disclosed names of many RU employees, mostly among the disputed 544 employees recruited during the previous BNP-Jamaat rule, who took part in the February 9 violence.
Ekram also named several RU employees who were paid by Jamaat and Shibir leaders, gave addresses of private dormitories rented around RU campus for sheltering Shibir men added the official without giving details.
Meanwhile, the police on Monday took the Jamaat leader and former ward councilor Gias Uddin on a 5-day police remand.
Police also arrested Bidyut, a Jamaat worker from Kharkhari area in the city for circulating leaflets demanding release of Rajshahi city Jamaat ameer Ataur Rahman and for instigating locals against the police activities.
