Four arrested on charge of looting Tk 69 lakh of Tharmex Group
Shibpur police on Sunday arrested four people including a woman on charge of looting Tk 69 lakh of Tharmex Group in Narsingdi.
Police also seized the private car used for robbery and recovered Tk 55,000 of the looted amount.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Shibpur police station OC Mujibur Rahman Majumder said, police raided several areas of the district at night and seized the private car, arrested its driver Shahin, 33, and Sohrab, 26, Saiful, 23 and Pakhi Begum, 40.
Police also recovered Tk 55,000 from Shahin and Saiful. Police is continuing drive to arrest others involved in the robbery, the OC said.
A gang on Thursday intercepted a microbus of Thermax Group carrying Tk 69 lakh for paying salary to the employees and took away the money.
In Kushtia, robbers looted one of the biggest jewellery shops in the town on Friday, reports our correspondent.
According to police, the gang removed soil to make a tunnel to enter the New Jewellers at midnight.
The gang broke open an iron safe and looted gold ornaments worth Tk 40 lakh, said Sujoy, a nephew of the shop owner as Brindaban Karmakar, owner of the jewelry shop was not available at home.
In Moulvibazar, two people were caught by Baralekha police while they were allegedly preparing to rob a bridal party at Kechhrigul village under Baralekha upazila on Saturday night.
Police also recovered three sharp weapons from them and filed a case in this connection, reports our correspondent.
Police said, a gang was taking preparation to commit robbery in the house of one Ranu Deb of Kechhrigul village on Saturday night as a bridal party was scheduled there the next day.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team reached the spot and found the robbers hiding near the pond of neighbour Dhirendra Deb.
Sensing police presence, most members of the gang ran away but police nabbed two from the spot.
The arrestees are Abdul Hasib, 38, and Abdul Basit, 35.
