62.4% of 3,619 weapons looted during July Uprising recovered: Gen Waker
Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, today said a total of 3,619 weapons were looted from different police stations across the country during the July Uprising in 2024.
Of the looted arms, 2,259 have been recovered, which is 62.4 percent of the total, he said at a high-level meeting on the overall law-and-order situation in view of the upcoming national polls.
The army chief added that 456,418 rounds of ammunition were looted during the same period, of which 237,100 rounds (52 percent) have been recovered.
The information was shared by the chief adviser’s press wing, quoting the army chief.
He said the forces are taking various steps based on mutual discussions to reassure the public ahead of the election.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at his office. Advisers Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Hafiz, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, and the chiefs of Bangladesh Navy and Air Force were among those present.
