BLAST holds expert consultation seminar on ensuring deterrence, punishment and reparation for rape
On 10 November 2018, Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) organised a seminar titled ‘Redress for Rape: Ensuring Deterrence, Punishment and Reparation’ at the BILIA Auditorium in Dhaka. This was the final seminar in a series of four expert consultation seminars on the review and proposed reform of laws on rape, hosted by BLAST between July and November, which will lead to a national conference in December 2018.

DU Law Department hosts Career Talk on ‘Career in Law’
Law students face the dilemma of choosing their career path from a plethora of available options once they graduate. This, however, becomes a daunting task for many due to the absence of proper guidelines. With this in view, the Career Club of Department of Law, University of Dhaka (DU) hosted the 2nd Career Talk on ‘Career in Law’ on November 14, 2018. Students of the department from freshman year up to master’s level spontaneously participated at the event.

First ever Law Debate held in BUP
The Department of Law, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and BUP Law and Moot Court Club (BUP-LMCC) jointly organised its very first Law Debate on 4th of November 2018, Sunday on the theme “A Legally Enforceable Right to Minimum Standard of Living”. The Debate was organised with a view to equipping the young law students with the argumentative skills, sophisticated legal knowledge and leadership abilities, so that they can fully be able to take leadership role in future. In the programme, around 200 law students of different semesters were present.

Ignorance of law is no excuse' and in a country like Bangladesh, knowing and learning about all the laws is a task of such a gigantic nature which we cannot expect of everyone, considering the inherent complexities involved in getting formal legal education and also the intricacies of legal jargons and language in particular which is not comprehensible to everyone.
