Asgar Ali Hospital in Dhaka gets approval to conduct bone marrow transplants
Asgar Ali Hospital, located in Dhaka's Gandaria, today received permission to conduct bone marrow transplant (BMT) procedures.
Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum handed over the approval letter to Prof Zabrul SM Haque, chief executive officer (CEO) and director of the hospital, at the adviser's Secretariat office.
For the first time, the health ministry formally granted permission to a private hospital in the country to conduct bone marrow transplant procedures, said a health ministry press release.
Prof Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the chief adviser for the health ministry, Health Secretary Saidur Rahman, and other relevant officials were present at the event.
The permission has been granted for one year, effective from December 1 this year. As per regulations, the approval must be renewed annually by the ministry.
