Daily Covid cases lowest in 69 days

117 more die; infection rate drops below 13pc

The number of daily Covid-19 cases dropped to 3,525, the lowest in the last 69 days though the death toll is still above the 100-mark.

The infection rate has also dropped to 12.78 percent, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 27,578 samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

So far, 14.86 lakh people have been infected by the deadly coronavirus since the detection of the first cases in the country on March 8, 2020.

Of the daily Covid-19 cases, 1,613 were detected in Dhaka division.

A total of 117 people died from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday. With this, the total number of deaths in the country has reached 25,846 and the death rate stands at 1.74 percent.

Among the deceased, 56 were men and 61 women. Of them, one aged between 0 and 10 years old, one between 11 and 20, three between 21 and 30, nine between 31 and 40, 16 between 41 and 50, 19 between 51 and 60, and 68 were above 60 years old, added the release.

The DGHS said among the total 25,846 fatalities, 11,310 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 5,162 in Chattogram, 1,920 in Rajshahi, 3,379 in Khulna, 880 in Barishal, 1,115 in Sylhet, 1,290 in Rangpur and 790 in Mymensingh division.

At least 6,485 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 1,404,370 and the recovery rate at 94.5 percent.

After a drastic fall of coronavirus cases in the country for about two months in January and February, the country witnessed a sharp increase of infection as 65,079 cases were reported in March and 1,47,837 cases in April.

The country again witnessed a fall in May 2021 as it recorded 41,408 cases. The infection rate started jumping from June. The rising trend sustained for about two months and then began to drop from August.
