Nor’wester devastates over 750 homes in Naogaon, Bogura
A powerful nor’wester on the night of March 15 left more than 750 houses damaged across Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon and Shibganj upazila of Bogura, according to local District Relief and Rehabilitation offices.
Badalgachhi upazila suffered the most extensive damage, with 720 houses affected across eight unions.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Ashekur Rahman confirmed the figures, adding that an Ansar shed was destroyed by an uprooted tree, injuring two members.
Each injured personnel has been provided Tk 10,000 for medical treatment, and a list of affected families is being prepared for distribution of corrugated iron sheets.
In Bogura, the storm struck after 10:00pm, damaging about 40 homes across several villages in Shibganj upazila.
Among those affected is Dhaka University graduate Sumi Khatun, who co-founded “Shamima Agro Farm” with her elder sister, Shamima Begum.
She said the 15-20 minute storm destroyed tin roofs, sheds, food stocks, and household belongings, leaving their Tk 4.5 lakh investment in ruins.
Shibganj Upazila Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Zahirul Islam told The Daily Star that officials are conducting field visits. So far, 25 families have been identified as severely affected, with roofs blown away and trees uprooted, while five families sustained partial damage.
“We are initially providing one bundle of tin to each affected family to assist with immediate repairs,” he added.
