Mild earthquake jolts Sylhet, no damage reported
A mild earthquake was felt in Sylhet city and its surrounding areas in the district this afternoon at 5:32pm.
According to the Seismic Observatory Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the tremor was 4 on the Richter Scale, with its epicentre in Sylhet’s Gowainghat upazila.
The epicentre is in close proximity to the Dauki Fault Line, which is a major fault along the southern boundary of the Shillong Plateau.
The earthquake report was circulated by Farjana Sultana, assistant meteorologist of the Observatory Centre, and confirmed by Shah Md Sajib Hossain, assistant meteorologist at the Sylhet Met Office.
No damage or casualties were reported immediately.
