‘Pather Panchali’ to return with new season, confirms Debashish Biswas
Popular street show “Pather Panchali” is set to make a comeback on Ekushey Television after a long hiatus, with Debashish Biswas returning as host.
Debashish, who built his career in filmmaking following in the footsteps of his father Dilip Biswas, first gained widespread recognition through hosting the hit ETV programme. The show became immensely popular for its outdoor format, where the presenter engaged passersby with witty and spontaneous questions.
Responding to a long-standing demand from viewers, Debashish confirmed that a new season of “Pather Panchali” will begin airing after Eid-ul-Fitr. The launch is planned to coincide with Ekushey Television’s upcoming anniversary celebrations.
Expressing his excitement, Debashish said the show and the channel played a crucial role in shaping his identity in the entertainment industry. He noted that audiences have continued to associate him with the programme for over two decades and have repeatedly urged him to bring it back.
He revealed that recent discussions with Ekushey Television officials about multiple projects led to serious talks about reviving “Pather Panchali” in a refreshed format. The idea gradually evolved into a concrete plan to reintroduce the show.
Unlike many studio-based productions, “Pather Panchali” was entirely shot outdoors, travelling across different locations to capture candid interactions. However, Debashish hinted that the format may undergo some changes to adapt to current times and circumstances.
While acknowledging that both the era and his own stage of life have changed, he expressed confidence that the show can return in a new style that today’s audience will still enjoy.
