Kate Winslet in talks to join ‘The Lord of the Rings’ universe
Hollywood actress Kate Winslet is in talks to star in the upcoming film “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum”, according to US media reports.
If confirmed, she will appear alongside Andy Serkis. He will also direct the film and return as Gollum from the original “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy directed by Peter Jackson.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. The makers have not officially confirmed the cast yet. However, reports say Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen may return. They are expected to reprise their roles as Frodo Baggins and Gandalf.
Jackson will produce the film. His longtime collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will also join the project. The films are based on the novels by J R R Tolkien.
The new film will also reunite Winslet with Jackson. They previously worked together in the 1994 film “Heavenly Creatures”.
The story details are still secret. Reports say the events will take place between “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on December 17, 2027.
