Mehazabien refutes ‘airport detention’ report, says legal action underway

Two days after stating that she was being “targeted in various ways”, actress Mehazabien Chowdhury has issued a detailed clarification regarding a report that recently circulated about her.

Earlier this week, the actress took to social media to speak about online harassment and the misuse of artificial intelligence, noting that actresses in particular have increasingly become targets of digitally manipulated and misleading content. While that post did not specify any particular incident, her latest statement directly addresses a report that claimed she had been detained at an airport last year while returning from abroad.

In her new post, Mehazabien firmly denied the allegations and confirmed that she has already taken legal action over the matter. “Regarding the recent incident in which defamatory claims have been circulated targeting me, I have already taken legal action. In this context, I would like to clarify a few points,” she wrote.

Refuting the claims in detail, she stated that she was never stopped at the airport, nor were any of her handbags or luggage detained. She further asserted that no airport official questioned her at any point.

“Is there any photograph, video, or any form of evidence showing that I was questioned or that anything unlawful was recovered from my luggage?” she asked, challenging those behind the claims.

Describing the situation as deeply concerning, the actress said that defamation has become disturbingly commonplace. She pointed out that despite serious allegations being made, no evidence has been produced to substantiate the claims, while her photograph has been used as clickbait.

“The allegations made against me are entirely baseless,” she reiterated, adding that she has no involvement whatsoever in the incident she has been linked to in certain publications.

It is worth noting that a report circulated recently alleging that Mehazabien was detained at an airport with 14 bottles of alcohol in her luggage. According to the claim, customs officials later allowed her to leave. The report, published by Asia Post, further alleged that she was accompanied by her husband, director Adnan Al Rajeev, and filmmaker Shankha Dasgupta.

However, the actress has categorically denied the incident, calling the allegations unfounded and subject to legal action.
