Salman Khan to open final season of Karan Johar’s ‘Koffee With Karan’
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan will kick off the ninth and final season of filmmaker Karan Johar’s celebrity chat show “Koffee With Karan”, bringing the long-running programme closer to its conclusion after more than two decades on screen.
The makers announced Khan’s appearance through a promotional video shared by Johar on Instagram. The final season is scheduled to premiere on October 14 on JioHotstar.
In the teaser, Khan confirms his appearance, saying, “Toh main aa raha hun karne Koffee with Karan” (“So, I’m coming to do Koffee with Karan”).
Sharing the clip, Johar described the upcoming episode as one last conversation with the Bollywood star, referring to him as “the one & only bhaii”. The season will stream on JioHotstar’s Peacock Hub.
The decision to end the show marks the close of a significant chapter in Indian celebrity television. Since its debut, “Koffee With Karan” has become known for bringing Bollywood actors and other prominent personalities together for candid conversations about their careers, relationships and personal lives.
In an interview with Variety, Johar said he wanted to dedicate the next phase of his career to directing films and telling more stories through cinema.
The filmmaker reflected on the programme’s role in shaping his public identity, noting that its ninth season comes 22 years after the show first aired.
He said he had decided, with a heavy heart, to make the upcoming edition his last as he hopes to spend the next decade directing more films.
“Koffee With Karan” premiered on Star World in 2004, with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol appearing as its inaugural guests. The show ran for six seasons on the television channel, with its sixth edition concluding in 2019. Episodes were also made available for streaming on Hotstar during its later television run.
The programme subsequently returned for additional seasons on streaming platforms, maintaining its place in Bollywood’s entertainment landscape.
With Salman Khan leading the final season, Johar is preparing to bid farewell to one of his most recognisable projects while turning his attention towards filmmaking.
