Amin Khan marks big-screen comeback with Madhumita Sarcar

Once-popular Dhallywood actor Amin Khan is returning to the big screen after nearly six years with Mohammad Iqbal’s “Gulshaner Chameli”. The film will also mark the Bangladeshi film debut of Tollywood actor Madhumita Sarcar, best known to audiences as Pakhi.

The cast of the film was officially unveiled at a muhurat ceremony held at a five-star hotel in Dhaka yesterday (August 1). The film also stars Azmeri Haque Badhan, Rozina, Ashish Khandker, Omar Sani, Misha Sawdagor, Shanu and Mukit Zakaria, among others.

Speaking at the event, Madhumita said she immediately accepted the offer after hearing about her character.

“I agreed to do the film as soon as I heard about the role. I couldn’t have asked for a better debut in Bangladeshi cinema. I hope audiences come to know me as ‘Chameli’, just as they know me as ‘Pakhi’. I’m grateful to have been given this opportunity, and I believe the film will turn out really well,” she said.

Although this marks Madhumita’s Bangladeshi film debut, she previously appeared opposite Mosharraf Karim in the 2016 television drama “Meghbalika”.

Reflecting on his return to cinema, Amin Khan said he was delighted to be back on screen.

“It feels wonderful to be acting in a film again after such a long time. I had taken a break because, for some reason, the right opportunities weren’t coming my way. When the director approached me with this project, I felt it was the right film to return with. It also has a talented ensemble cast, and we’ll all do our best to deliver a good film,” he said.

According to the filmmakers, “Gulshaner Chameli” explores politics, abuse of power and the hidden realities of elite society. The story centres on a sex worker who repeatedly becomes a victim of power despite committing no crime. Madhumita will portray the titular character, Chameli.

Director Mohammad Iqbal said filming is scheduled to begin in November or December, with plans to release the film during one of next year’s Eid festivals.

The screenplay has been written by Abdullah Zahir Babu.
