Councilor-elect killed in post poll violence in Sirajganj

A councilor-elect was killed by the rivals in Sirajganj municipality on tonight.

The victim, Tarikul Islam, 45, councilor-elect of the Ward- 6 of Sirajganj municipality was hacked by the men of his rival candidate Shahadat Hossain Buddin, sources said.

Officer-in-charge (investigation) of Sirajganj Sadar police station Md Golam Mostafa told the Daily Star that the criminals attacked him when he was celebrating his victory.

He was taken to a private hospital in Sirajganj where he died at about 8.30pm.

Tarikul won by 85 votes, sources said.
