EC office assistant among two arrested over NID forgery, data sale
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two people, including a computer operator-cum-office assistant of the Election Commission (EC), on charges of forging National Identity (NID) cards and illegally selling citizens’ confidential information.
The group has been earning more than Tk 1 crore per month from the illicit activities, CID Special Superintendent Jasim Uddin Khan said today.
CID officials said the arrestees had long been involved in an organised syndicate engaged in unauthorised NID corrections, insertion of fake information, and the illegal sale of citizens’ personal data.
Further details of the investigation will be shared at a press briefing scheduled to be held at the CID headquarters later today.
