Woman beaten dead for pressing for marriage: Family

A woman was beaten to death by her alleged boyfriend's relatives at Dharajamtail in Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj this afternoon for pressing him to marry her.

Police detained four persons in connection with the incident, reports our Pabna correspondent quoting police.

The deceased Khadiza Khatun, 18, daughter of Ansar Ali of Khanpara in Enayetpur of Shahzadpur upazila, had a "love affair" with Yusuf Ali, 30, of Dharajamtail village of the upazila for last few years.

"Khadiza forced Eusuf to marry her for the last few days but he denied," said Md Rezaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Shahzadpur Police Station, quoting family members.

Khadiza went to his house last night demanding Yusuf to marry her but Yusuf and his family members beat her mercilessly, the OC also said.

Later, Khadiza was admitted to Khaza Younus Ali Medical College and Hospital where she succumbed to her injury in the afternoon, the OC added.

Victim's brother Saber Ali filed a case against Yusuf and his family members.

However, Yusuf went into hiding just after the incident, the OC further said. The autopsy revealed that there were several injuries in the victim's body.
