Woman stabbed for dowry

A housewife is fighting for life at Habiganj Sadar Hospital as she was stabbed indiscriminately, allegedly by her husband, on Sunday night.

She is Siufa Begum, 20, daughter of Syed Moin Uddin of Dawlatpur village in Habiganj district.

Family members said Siufa was married to Monir Mia, 26, one year ago.

Monir stabbed Siufa several times on Sunday as she refused to bring money from her parents. Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and took her to the hospital, he added.

Police will take action against those responsible for the offence after investigation, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Baniarchang Police Station Amullay Kumar Chowdhury said.

Monir went into hiding after the incident, the OC added.
