Woman murdered for dowry
A housewife was hacked to death and hung from a tree in Nikli upazila of Kishoreganj. The victim is Selima Begum, 28, wife of Borju Miah, 35, of Tenguria village.
Selima was married to Borju 10 years ago. Selima and Borju had an altercation on Sunday when he pressed her to sell the land that she got from her father. As Selima refused, Borju allegedly hacked her yesterday, leaving her dead on the spot.
Later, Borju and his family members hung the body from a tree and said Selima had committed suicide. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nikli Police Station Mueid Chowdhury said there were injury marks on the head and back of the victim.
"We found blood stained sandals in the room where Selima was murdered, but the murder weapon has not been recovered yet," he added.
Victim's elder brother Jamal Miah filed a case against Borju, his father and two brothers. Police have arrested Borju, the OC said.
