Transport strike begins in Gaibandha

District Motor Malik-Sramik Oiakay Parishad called an indefinite strike yesterday protesting the attack on the secretary of the district Bus-Truck-Tank Lorry Owners' Association (BTTLOA) and vandalising a ticket counter.

A clash took place on December 13 during the general meeting of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce, in which Moktadur Rahman Mithu, secretary of the district BTTLOA was attacked by a rival group and sustained severe injuries.

"Police have not arrested any of the accused persons involved in the attack on our leader till Tuesday, so we called a strike until the accused people are arrested," said Abul Hossain, joint secretary of BTTLOA.
