The local administration today imposed section 144 in the municipality area of Mymensingh's Phulbaria upazila where two people including a college teacher were killed during a police action yesterday.

The authorities imposed the restriction for 24 hours from 12midnight today to avoid further violence, Nur-e-Alam, additional superintendent of Mymensingh police, told our Mymensingh correspondent.

Police barred the family members when they tried to bring the body of Abul Kalam Azad, assistant professor of botany department of Fulbaria Degree College, to the college premises for his namaz-e-janaza in the morning, the victim's father SM Abul Hashem claimed.

A passerby, Safor Ali, was also killed during the incident that took place when the teachers and students were demonstrating, demanding nationalisation of the college.

Over 100 others were also injured, 10 of them seriously, as police swooped on an agitation programme of teachers, students and locals in Phulbaria upazila yesterday.
