Schoolboy killed by classmates

A schoolboy was stabbed to death allegedly by his classmates in Kewatkhali area of the district town yesterday.

Police arrested the victim's classmate Sakibul Hasan, 15, of Trishal upazila, in this connection.

The deceased Md Rasheduzzaman Leon, 15, son of Md Akhtaruzzaman Liton, an expatriate in Malaysia, was a Class IX student of Kewatkhali Railway High School. He hailed from Bhelamari village in Nandail upazila.

Leon stayed at his maternal uncle's house at Balashpur area in the town.

Quoting teachers and students of the school, police said one Nayeem, 18, an outsider, along with Sakibul Hasan and four other classmates of Leon attacked the victim at the school gate when he was going to attend classes around 9:30am.

At one stage, the attackers stabbed Leon indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

Hearing screams, locals, teachers and students rushed to the spot and found the criminals fleeing the scene.

Leon later died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, said Mohammad Noor-e-Alam, additional police superintendent. 

Love affair might be the reason behind the killing, said Md Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station. 

Police are raiding different areas to arrest the accused, said the OC.

Meanwhile, students of the school brought out a procession on the campus, demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers.
