'Robber' killed in Kushtia 'gunfight'

A suspected robber was killed and four others suffered bullet wounds in an alleged 'gunfight' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Bheramara upazila in Kushtia early today.

The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, a member of inter-district robber gang.

Tipped off that a robber gang boarded a bus of 'Hanif Paribahan' on Kushtia-Ishwardi road to commit robbery, a Rab team conducted a drive in the area around 1.30am, said Mosaddek Ibne Mujib, company commander of RAB-12.

He said when the Rab members obstructed the bus in the area for search, the 'robbers' opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

After half an hour of the gunfight, the Rab members caught five of the 'robbers' with bullet wounds.

They were taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared Salam dead.

The four others injured are Delwar, Aynal, Khokon and Alamgir.

The elite forces also recovered a foreign revolver, a foreign pistol, eight round of bullets from the spot.
