‘Robber’ killed in Dhamrai ‘gunfight’
An alleged robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Jhaubada village in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Abu Hanif, 30, son of Shamsul Haque, hailing from Jhalua village in Kamrangirchar area of the capital. He was accused in nine robbery cases filed with different police stations.
Rezaul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhamrai Police Station, said on secret information that a group was taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of police conducted the drive at the village early in the morning.
Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire at them prompting a retaliation that triggered "a gunfight".
The "gunfight" left Hanif bullet injured while the other members of the gang managed to flee the scene.
Later, the injured was taken to the upazila health complex where doctors declared his dead.
Police also recovered one pistol from the spot.
