Probe if cops had link to arson on Santals: HC

The High Court today directed authorities to find out if the police force were involved in setting fire to the homes of Santal community during eviction in Gaibandha.

The court also asked the chief judicial magistrate of Gaibandha to trace the people involved in the arson. The magistrate has been asked to report by 15 days.

The High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order following a petition filed by three rights organisations seeking necessary orders to find out the people responsible for the arson.

Different print and electronic media recently published a video record on the incident of setting of fire to the houses of Santals.

The petitioners today submitted a petition to the High Court annexing the media report alleging that the police have set fire to the houses of Santals.
