Around 400 reared ducks died, falling prey to 'poison traps' set by callous bird poachers at a paddy field in Sunampur village under Juri upazila of the district on Monday evening.

While walking in the field, the ducks belonging to Joynal Mia, Jalal Mia and Abdul Hannan died after taking food mixed with poison.

With the advent of winter, ducks often move around in the paddy fields of Hakaluki Haor area, and taking the opportunity, a section of people use poisonous foods to kill the birds.

Contacted, Hasin Ahmed, livestock officer of Juri, and Jalal Uddin, office-in-charge of Juri Police Station, confirmed the matter.
