Pay RMG workers' wages, bonus before Eid: Home minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today called upon the owners of readymade garment factories to pay salaries and bonus of their workers before the Eid-ul-Fitr to avoid any untoward incident.
He also said some banks will be kept open during the three-day Eid holiday so that the RMG workers can collect their salaries and bonus, reports the Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Kamal came up with the call after a meeting, held with the members of law enforcement agencies, at his office this afternoon.
Workers' unrest takes place every year over the salary and bonus issues and they stage demonstration in front of their factories to meet their demands, he said.
There are 5,738 RMG factories in the country. For the sake of the owners of these factories, some banks will remain open for three days from July 2, the minister said.
The minister also said that all sorts of measures have been taken to ensure smooth plying of holidaymakers and their securities on the highways.
The accident prone points have already been identified and adequate watchtowers have also been set up at the strategic points on the highway, he added.
Around 15,000 Ansar members have already been deployed to make the effort a success, the home boss said.
