Over 100 trucks stranded at Burimari port
Over 100 trucks loaded with imported goods got stranded at Burimari land port in Patgram upazila of the district as labourers have been observing indefinite strike to realise their one point demand for fair wages since Saturday.
No labourers will join their work for loading and unloading imported goods in the land port until the demand was met, said a leader of Burimari unit of Bangladesh Sangjukta Sramik Federation.
The labourers said they are now getting Tk 31 against unloading and loading one tonne.
They will not join work until the wage is increased to Tk 45 from Tk 31, said Safar Uddin, president of the federation.
Assistant Commissioner of Customs at the land port Rezvi Ahmed said he requested labourer handling contractors to engotiate the matter immediately.
