Natore BCL man ‘assaults’ UP member, secy
A union-level activist of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student front of ruling Awami League, allegedly assaulted two grassroot administration officials in Natore's Naldanga today.
Shariful Islam Shamim, president of BCL Madhnagar Union unit, beat up Shahidul Islam, a member and Nazmul Islam, the secretary of the union, said police.
Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naldanga Police Station said Shamim and some of his followers locked in an altercation with the UP secretary and a member.
Nazmul, the secretary, said he was beaten up because he could not give a citizenship certificate to Shamim around 1:00pm as the chairman was in Dhaka.
Amzad Hossain, chairman of Madhnagar Union Parishad and president of the Madhnagar Union unit Awami League, said: "I shall not tolerate such criminal activities though the criminals are BCL leaders and activists."
Naldanga Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sharmin Akter Jahan said she asked the OC to take legal action in this regard.
