MP Shamim can't head N’ganj school body for 3 months: HC

Star Online Report

The High Court today stayed for three months the activities of Narayanganj Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman as chairman of a school managing committee in his area.

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why the Dhaka board's approval for Shamim Osman to function as chairman of the managing committee of Dapa Adorsh High School should not be declared illegal.

The bench of Justice M Moazzam Husain and Justice Md Badruzzaman came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Morsheda Begum, mother of a student of the school.

Morsheda filed the petition challenging legality of holding the post of chairman of the school managing committee by AL lawmaker Osman.

Petitioner's counsel Eunus Ali Akond told The Daily Star that Shamim, MP of Narayanganj-4 constituency, cannot function as chairman of the managing committee of Dapa Adorsh High School following the HC order.

He has been selected as chairman of the school's committee although the HC earlier ruled that the lawmakers cannot become head of such institution as per their desire.

The Dhaka education board also given approval on the function of Shamim Osman in violation of the HC verdict, he said.

The Al lawmaker, the authorities concerned of the government and Dhaka Education Board have been made respondents to the rule, he added.
