A youth was stabbed to death allegedly by his friends in Bhaluka upazila on Sunday night.

The deceased, Rezaul Karim Rajib, 25, son of Abdul Matin, was a medicine trader in College Road area in the upazila.

Police detained four youths-- Titu, Dulal, Ismail and Rusell-- for their alleged involvement in connection with the murder.

Quoting locals, police said a few days ago Rajib, an alleged drug addict, bought some heroin from his friend Tushar which was less in quantity than what he paid for.

On Sunday evening, Rajib locked in an altercation with Tushar and his friends in College Road area over the issue and at one stage, he slapped Tushar.

After a while, enraged Tushar returned to the spot with a knife and stabbed Rajib indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot, said Hazrat Ali, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Bhaluka Police Station.

Deceased's father Abdul Matin filed a case with Bhaluka Police Station against five people, including Tushar, on Monday evening.

Police produced the arrestees before a court that sent them to jail yesterday, the OC said.
