Chuadanga police arrested a local influential person on charge of forging the signatures of two High Court judges yesterday.

The arrestee, Shukur Ali, 38, son of Abdul LAtif of Titudah in Chuadanga Sadar upazila, is locally known as an influential leader of Awami League although he does not hold any party position.

Shukur Ali took lease of the village fair named Gorai Tupir Mela from the district administration for holding it from July 15 to July 24 this year, said Mozammel Haq, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station.

But Shukur continued the fair after the stipulated period and following allegations of various anti-social activities including gambling there, local administration ordered Shukur to stop the fair within August 9.

Shukur submitted a fake order of the High Court 'signed' by Justice Salma Masud Choudhury and Justice Habibul Ghani, ordering the local administration to allow Shukur to continue the fair two months more.

Local police started verifying the documents and found that Shukur submitted fake documents by using forged signature of the two judges.

Nasir Uddin, sub-inspector of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, filed a case against Shukur Ali and his 50 accomplices on August 14.

Chuadanga Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court ordered sending Shukur to jail after police produced him before court in yesterday afternoon.
