Lightning kills 8 in 5 dists
Eight people were killed and nine others injured by lightning in Rajshahi, Gazipur Nilphamari, Dinajpur and Natore districts yesterday, reports our correspondent.
In Rajshahi, three people were killed and four others injured by lightning in Mohonpur upazila of the district in the afternoon. The deceased are Abdur Razzak, 28, of Ata Narayanpur village, Abdul Aziz, 50, of Hattoir village, and Sri Satya Chandra, 30, of Dangapara village. They died on the spot when a thunderbolt struck them during a storm around 1:30pm, said Abdus Samad, chairman of Mohonpur upazila.
The injured are Jalal Uddin, 40, of Pullakuri village, Alimon Begum, 70, of Baroipara village and Jahanara Begum, 28, of Mollah Dyeing village of the union.
In Gazipur, a farmer and a housewife died when they were struck by lightning in Kapasia upazila of the district yesterday. The deceased are Abdus Sattar, 30, of Satana village in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram district, and Robina, 36, wife of one Kajol Mia of Singuya village in Kapasia upazila.
In Nilphamari, a farmer was killed and five others were injured as they were struck by lightning at noon yesterday.The deceased was identified as Mokhlesur Rahman, 48, of Chashma Para village in Saidpur upazila. He was a farmer.
Mokhlesur was working inside his house when a thunderbolt tore through the tin roof and hit him. He died instantly. Five others of the family sustained burn injuries.
Lightning killed a man in Phulbari upazila of Dinajpur yesterday. The deceased is Mongal Murmu, 50, of Basudevpur village.
In Natore, Two people were killed by lightning in Lalpur upazila yesterday evening.
The deceased are Mobarak Hossain, 37, of village Raghinathpur, and Sahara Banu, 28, wife of Nantu Mian of village Uttar Lalpur.
