Land disputes leave 60 hurt in Habiganj, Bogra

At least 50 people were injured in a clash over land dispute between the people of two neighbouring villages in Habiganj Sadar upazila yesterday.

Of the injured, 20 were admitted to Sadar Upazila Health Complex and Habiganj Sadar Hospital.

Quoting local people, police said there had been a longstanding feud between one Jamal Sardar of Kandigaon village and Al-Amin of Suraboi village over the ownership of six decimals of land on the border of the two villages.

To settle the matter, followers of Jamal and Al-Amin attended an arbitration yesterday morning. As the arbitrators failed to settle the dispute, supporters of the two, equipped with wooden sticks and bamboos, attacked each other, leaving at least 50 people from both sides injured.

On information, police went to the spot and charged batons to disperse the clashing groups.

 Away in Bogra, at least 10 people were injured in a clash over land dispute between two groups of villagers at Purba Guyarhori village in Dhunat upazila of the district yesterday, reports our correspondent.

The injured were admitted to Dhunat Upazila Health Complex.

Police said there was a dispute between Jamal Sheikh and Abul Hossain of the village over the ownership of a piece of land. Following an altercation between the duo over the issue, the villagers belonging to both sides attacked each other, leaving 10 people injured.
