‘JMB militant’ killed in Bagerhat ‘gunfight’

An alleged member of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in a "gunfight" with police in Bagerhat Sadar upazila early today.
Tipped off that some JMB members will create subversive activities in Rasulpur bridge area, a team of police conducted a drive there around 1:00am, our correspondent reports quoting Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat.
Sensing police presence, the miscreants opened fire and hurled crude bombs targeting the police vehicle, ensuing a "gunfight", the SP also said.
At one stage, the miscreants fled the scene leaving one of their associates with bullet wounds on the spot, the police official said.
The injured JMB suspect was whisked off to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the SP added.
Police recovered two firearms and several bullets from the spot.
Three cases have been filed in this regard with Bagerhat Model Police Station.
