Indian drug peddler jailed for life

A Jessore court yesterday sentenced an Indian national to life imprisonment for drug peddling.

Judge of the Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court-1 Monjurul Imam handed down the verdict after examining the records and witnesses.

The convict is Saul Hamid, 45, son of Barek Ali of Tamil Nadu in India.

The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, in default, he is to suffer six more months' imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, a team of police arrested Saul along with 2.5 kg of cocaine from a passenger bus on Jessore-Benapole highway in Jhikargachha upazila on January 7 in 2010.
