Husband's brutality lands her in hospital

Husband's brutality landed her at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), with eyes critically burnt in an acid attack.

The victim, Salma Begum, 23, second wife of Saiful Islam of Sholakura village in Belkuchi upazila under Sirajganj, is now undergoing treatment at the burn unit of DMCH in a critical condition, said police and family sources.

Salma's father Solaiman Sheikh of the village filed a case with Belkuchi Police Station, accusing Saiful, said Officer-in-Charge Sazzad Hossain of the PS.

Following a family feud, Saiful threw acid on Salma when she was asleep in her bedroom on Tuesday night, the OC said, adding that the husband went into hiding soon after the incident.

The couple often engaged in altercation over family feuds since their marriage two years ago, he said quoting the victim's father. 

Salma was first taken to the upazila health complex and then shifted to DMCH as her condition deteriorated.

"The entire face, especially the eyes, of Salma was critically burnt in the acid attack. As there is not enough treatment facility for critically burned patients in the hospital, she was shifted to DMCH," said Dr Swadesh Kumar Saha, medical officer of the health complex.

Police are raiding different areas to arrest the accused, said the police official.
