Ex-CU BCL leader’s death: ‘Students’ halt shuttle trains
A group of students allegedly vandalised a demu train and blockaded shuttle train services between Chittagong University and the port city this morning protesting the death of a former BCL leader of the university unit yesterday.
Two shuttle trains were halted by the students at Fatehabad Railway Station around 8:45am, Shahbuddin, stationmaster of Sholoshahar Railway Station, told our CU correspondent.
Confirming the incident, CU Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury said the university authorities are trying to resolve the matter.
Diyaj Irfan Chowdhury, a central leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, was found hanging in his rented house at Duinang Gate of the university last night.
He was assistant secretary of the pro-Awami League student organisation.
His family members and followers claimed that his body was hanged from the ceiling fan after murdering him.
Diyaj is a former student of Finance, session 2006-'7, and former joint secretary of CU BCL unit.
Meanwhile, Ctg district superintendent of police and Hathazari upazila nirbahi officer, while visiting the spot where Diyaj's body was recovered, told journalists that the cause of his death will be known after an autopsy, the CU correspondent said.
Blockade on Ctg- Hathazari road
Around a hundred aggrieved supporters of Diyaj blockaded the Chittagong- Hathazari road for half an hour in the morning.
A tailback created on both sides of the road due to the obstruction of vehicles which was later lifted following the intervention of police and CU authorities, the correspondent reports quoting Md Belal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari Model Police Station.
