‘College teacher killed’ in clash with Mymensingh cops
Two persons including a college teacher were reportedly killed and many others injured during a clash between police and agitating students and teachers of Phulbaria Degree College in Mymensingh this afternoon.
Police charged batons when students and teachers of the college brought out a procession at campus demanding nationalisation of the college around 1:00pm, triggering a clash, said SM Abul Hashem, convener of Phulbaria Degree College Nationalisation Committee.
"At least 100 people including 25 teachers of the college were injured in the clash. Later, two of them succumbed to their injuries," he claimed.
Meanwhile, Syed Nurul Islam, superintendent of police in Mymensingh, told The Daily Star that there was no link between the deaths and the clash.
"An unidentified person aged around 60 died in stroke and Abul Kalam Azad, a teacher of Zoology department of the college died of heart attack," the Nur-e-Alam, additional superintendent of Mymensingh police, told The Daily Star.
