Child marriage bid foiled

A girl was saved from child marriage following timely intervention of the local administration at Telkhupi village in Gabtoli upazila of the district on Friday. Moly Khatun, 13, daughter of Abdul Jalil, was going to be married with Md Nahid, 25, of Bogra town. On information, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ahsan Habib rushed to the spot and foiled the marriage. The bride's father was also arrested for arranging the marriage. However, the bridegroom's men managed to flee the scene, sensing the presence of the UNO. The court, led by Habib, later sentenced the bride's father to one month's imprisonment.
