Bring Sramik League leader Bullet's killers to book

A human chain was formed along Lalmonirhat-Rangpur Road in Mahendranagar area under Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon, demanding arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of Sramik League leader Fakhrul Islam Bullet.

Local people, family members and relatives of the victim joined the programme that continued for an hour from 2:30pm.

They also brought out a procession in the area, protesting police inaction over arresting the killers.

Addressing a rally at Mahendranagar, the speakers threatened to go for a tougher movement if their demand was not met immediately.

Fakhrul Islam Bullet, 35, son of Enamul Haque, was president of Mahendranagar union unit of Sramik League.

Quoting witnesses, police said an unidentified gang swooped on Bullet in Mahendranagar area around 10:300pm on June 27, stabbed him and fled the scene, leaving him critically injured.

Locals took him to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Victim's father lodged a case with Sadar Police Station the following night, accusing 15 people, including local AL man Aminul Islam Khan.

Police arrested one Apel Islam, 29, the same night, suspecting his involvement in the killing.

Contacted, Pradip Kumar Roy, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Sadar Police station, said, they are raiding different areas to arrest the killers who had gone into hiding soon after the incident.
