All 28,000 assistant teachers to get appointment

Star Online Report

The government has finally decided to recruit 28,000 candidates waiting on a panel as assistant teachers of registered primary schools.

The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) today issued notices to all district primary education officers and authorities concerned to take steps to appoint the candidates as assistant teachers in the primary schools those were nationalised in 2013, sources said.

Earlier on June 6, the DPE issued notices to the district education officials to recruit them in the vacant posts according to the merit list. The notice triggered protests by the candidates, resulting to the today's new decision.

The ministry in April 2010 had issued a circular for the recruitment of assistant teachers to the then registered non-government primary schools.

Tests for the recruitment were held in 2012 and a total of 42,611 candidates finally came out successfully. A panel was formed to appoint the candidates and around 14,000 were appointed at different times.

But, further appointment from the panel was stopped after the government in January 2013 started nationalising the non-government primary schools.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on May 18 sent a letter to the DPE asking it to appoint the candidates in vacant posts.
