A four-year-old girl, abducted from Dhubaura upazila on November 8, was found murdered on Wednesday night.

The victim, Sumaiya Akhter, was daughter of Jewel Mia of Gamaritola village in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge Imarat Hossain of Mymensingh Detective Branch (DB) of Police said Alamgir Hossain, 20, son of Muntaj Ali of the village, picked up Sumaiya from in front of her house around 1:30pm on November 8.

Alamgir later demanded Tk 2 lakh as ransom from Jewel over mobile phone for his daughter's release.

Failing to arrange the ransom money, Jewel informed police of the matter and filed a case with Dhubaura Police Station after three days into the incident.

Following the filing of the case, police arrested Alamgir from a remote area in Durgapur upazila of Netrakona around 10:00pm on Wednesday, after tracking his mobile phone location.

On the basis of Alamgir's statement, police recovered Sumaiya's decomposed body from a paddy field near her house around 11:30pm.

Detectives produced the arrestee before a Mymensingh court seeking a 10-day remand. The court, however, granted three days.
