8 AL men charged with assault on Parashuram UNO

A court here yesterday framed charges against eight Awami League leaders and activists in a case for assaulting Parashuram Upazila Nirbahi Officer HM Rakib Haider.

Judge Rajesh Chowdhury of the Speedy Trial Tribunal, Feni, passed the order in the presence of the accused. He also fixed June 28 for taking statements of the witnesses.

The court also rejected petitions filed by the accused, seeking acquittal.

Officer-in-charge of Parashuram Police Station Abul Kashem Chowdhury, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet on May 16 against eight AL men, including senior vice-president of Feni district AL Khairul Bashar Majumder Tapon, Chithalia Union Parishad Chairman and Chithalia union AL general secretary Jasim Uddin and Parashuram municipality councillor Abdul Mannan.

On May 6, UNO HM Rakib Haider was assaulted allegedly by the AL men for not showing respect to Khairul Bashar Majumder Tapon.
