50 injured in clash over land dispute
At least 50 people were injured in a clash over a land dispute between two groups of people of Madhabpur and Khargaon villages under Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district.
According to sources, there had been longstanding dispute between Tota Miah of Madhabpur village and Mohiuddin of Khargaon village over the ownership of a land on the border of the two villages.
Mohiuddin's men attacked Tota Miah and his men while they were working on the disputed land at around 9:00am The rival groups locked in a clash, leaving at least 50 people from both sides injured
Of the injured, 36 were admitted to Chhatak Upazila Health Complex and Sunamganj Sadar Hospital, while the rest to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
On information, police rushed to the spot and fired nine rounds of teargas shells to bring the situation under control.
Contacted, Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge of Chhatak Police Station, said police have been deployed in the area to fend-off further trouble.
