5 'robbers' killed in Faridpur, Pabna 'gunfights'

Five suspected robbers were killed in two separate incidents of "gunfight" in Pabna and Faridpur districts early today.

Of them, three alleged robbers were killed in a "gunfight" with members of Rapid Action Battalion in Pabna while two others were killed in another alleged gunfight between two robber gangs in Faridpur.

In Pabna, four others sustained bullet injuries in the incident at Joynagar area of Ishwardi upazila early today.

The deceased Badsha Miah, Shafikul Islam and Monju Miah, aged from 35 to 40, are the members of a local robber gang, said Bina Rani Das, Commander of Rab-12, Pabna camp.

Tipped off that a gang of 10 to 12 robbers were committing robbery at a rice mill in Ishwardi upazila, a Rab team conducted a drive in the area around 3: 00am, Bina said.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting the Rab members to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

Later, Rab recovered bodies of two of the robbers from Boroichora point while five others were injured. One succumbed to his injuries on way to Pabna General Hospital. Four others were undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Two Rab members also received light injuries during the gunfight. Three revolvers and several bullets were seized from their possession.

In Faridpur, two alleged robbers were killed in a "gunfight" between two robber gangs at Sattarkandi village in Madhukhali upazila around 1:00am, UNB reports. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Informed that two robber gangs were exchanging gunfire, a police team rushed to the spot and recovered two bullet-hit bodies, said Officer-in-Charge of Madhukhali Police Station Ruhul Amin.

The bodies were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy, he added.

Meanwhile, police detained six people from the area for their suspicious involvement and recovered two firearms, some bullets and three sharp weapons from the spot.
