5 'human traffickers' detained in Dhaka, Faridpur
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in separate drives detained five alleged human traffickers from Dhaka and Faridpur respectively and rescued a victim from their clutches last night.
A team of Rab- 1 conducted a drive in the airport area and nabbed Liton Khan, 28, and Nur Mohammad alias Dulal, 28, last night, said Lt Col Khandkar Golam Sarwar, commanding officer of Rab-3, while briefing reporters today.
Meanwhile, Zakir alias Hantu Mollah, 40, Belal Matubbar, 33, and Abdul Kuddus Mollah, 25, were detained from Faridpur last night following a lead, the Rab official added.
"They are members of a human trafficking syndicate who lures people and offers them lucrative employment abroad. Then, they hold the victims captive and demand ransom," he added.
"My family had to pay Tk 2 lakh to free me,"said Mintu Ali Khan who was allegedly trafficked to Libya by the detainees. "They beat me up with iron bars when my family delayed to pay the ransom."
