2 sent to jail in Mymensingh

A Mymensingh court yesterday sent two accused in the Tonmoy killing case to jail after the police produced them before it.

Police arrested the two young men, including the prime accused, in the Haluaghat upazila headquarters early yesterday.

The arrestees are main accused Mehdi Hasan Sagar, 21, and Ruhan Islam Riad alias Ghuri Riad, 20, of Mymensingh town.

Sagor passed his SSC examination from Mukul Niketan High School this year and Riad is a class IX student of the same institution, police said. 

Superintendent of Police Syed Nurul Islam at a press conference said on information Kotwali police arrested them for their alleged involvement in the killing.

They confessed their involvement in the killing of Tonmoy during the primary interrogation, he said.

Ishtiaq Ahmed Tonmoy, 15, son of Farid Ahmed of Sherpur, was killed on Friday just for a cellphone in Ram Babu Road area of the town.

Bappi, 18, who was detained the following day, was released yesterday as police did not find his involvement in the incident, said Md Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station.

Police drives are on to arrest the other culprits, the OC said.

Other accused are Farabi, 19, Shimul, 18, Alamin, 18, Adnan, 18, Manik alias Shuvo, 18, and Hasan, 16, police said.
